Emerging Teacher Prep

An alternative path to classroom leadership

Candidates with a bachelor’s degree can now enroll in our Emerging Teacher Prep program, which offers a Master's of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction that prepares you to become certified as a teacher in Texas.

The program can be completed in one academic year, or three semesters including summer, fall and spring.  Because of this, a candidate that begins in the summer semester could be eligible for a paid, one-year teaching internship by August. We understand that you have a busy life, that’s why our program offers a flexible schedule with courses in the evenings, typically once a week.

Admission Standards

Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA on the last 60 undergraduate semester hours of work prior to receiving the bachelor’s degree, or an overall 2.8 GPA on all undergraduate work. Applicants with a completed master's degree must have at least a 3.4 GPA on the master's coursework.

All applicants must complete the TExES Pre-Admission Content Test (PACT) to demonstrate content proficiency in their chose teaching field. Information on the process for taking the PACT can be found at http://www.texes.ets.org/epp/epppact/.
